Mold Making Silicone

Mold Making Silicone

GT Products mold making silicones are reliable and consistent.  There are many options available through GT Products.  Whether you need a high strength silicone for deep undercuts or a less expensive material that will be used for one casting we can help you.  With over 50 years of mold making experience the technical sales team can help you make a selection if needed.

Silicone rubber is an elastomeric polymer.  The most commonly used silicone rubber is polydimethylsiloxane.   Polydimethylsiloxane contains methyl groups that do not react easily with other chemicals.  This helps the silicone resist chemical interaction improving its stability and bio compatibility making silicone ideal for mold making and many other applications.

Mold making silicones are used by archaeologist, prototypers, artists, sculptors, and many types of hobbyists.  Silicone rubber can be used for keypads, pad printing pads, furniture repair, candle making, special effects, soap molds, figurines and many other applications.

Mold making silicones can be purchased in several forms.  Easy to use silicone putties are available in which you will simply knead together equal parts of a 2 part system and then simply press the putty against any item to create an exact mirror image.  Castable systems are also available in several grades as well as varying hardness’s or durometers and strengths.  GT Products also offers 2 types of mold making silicones.  Condensation or tin based systems are typically used by artists, sculptors, and archaeologist because these materials can be poured against just about anything and curing process will not be effected.

Addition Cure or Platinum systems are used by prototypers because these systems will have little to no shrinkage.  This is necessary for making molds with tight tolerances.  Potting compounds used in electronics will also typically use addition cure systems.  Addition cure systems can be accelerated by the addition of heat.  The heat from a simple light bulb can shorten the cure rate of an addition cure system drastically.  Condensation cure systems are driven by humidity in the air.  The higher the humidity the faster the material will set up.  GT Products supplies special catalyst that will accelerate the cure of condensation systems.

With the many options available there are countless applications that can silicone can be used for.  When combined with the many years of hands on experience in using mold making silicones GT Products is the best place to look. If you are having trouble determining which system to use the please do not hesitate to contact us through email at info@gtproducts.com.  We will be happy to guide you through the selection process and help you achieve the highest quality of your work when using GT Products silicones.
